Light a Single Candle Foundation has the privilege of working with many new and many repeat partners in a common mission to serve the poor. Here are some of our featured projects:
Brace for Impact: Support to Haiti – This funding supported the Community Health Program in Haiti that provides support to 220-300 people per day, reaching people through home visits and mobile clinics.
Esperanza Juvenil: Long-Term Nutritional Support – This grant provided 3 meals a day for the 116 students living in residence at this facility in Guatemala. By serving 100,968 nutritious meals to residential and day students, 80% of the population was in a healthy weight range at the end of 2022.
Feed My Starving Children: International Food Relief – This grant provided approximately 104,166 meals for children and vulnerable adults.
Global Learning Exchange Initiative: Open Books: Open Minds – This funding provided 45 teachers with the Open Books Open Minds Curriculum training, school supplies, teacher stipends and funding for the Literacy Impact Coordinator in Guatemala. Through investment in the teachers, this program aims to see an increase in literacy for students.
Help for Haiti: Equipping Haitian Entrepreneurs to Run Successful, Sustainable Small Businesses that Support Improved Well-being for their Families and Communities – This is a 3rd year renewal that funds a new session of the One Hen Adult Entrepreneurship Program (OHAEP) entrepreneurship training program for 150 participants, including a program expansion to support 25 participants in rural Marmalade. This program expansion was so successful that they were able to reach an additional 175 participants in Marmalade.
New Roots Haiti: Farm – This funding supported the final upgrade to New Roots Haiti’s solar system which will put them on a trajectory of making the poultry operation profitable for chicken production in Cap Haitian. In 2022, they aim to reduce power expenses by 85% yearly through use of solar power and to process 1,100 chickens per month.
NPH: Support for work in Haiti – This provided operational support the work of the NPH team serving the vulnerable in Haiti.
Prosperity Catalyst: Economic Empowerment of Haitian Women through Associative Beekeeping and Agroforestry – This provided training to 1108 small holder farmers on the modern methods of beekeeping.
Semilla Nueva: Scaling Biofortified seeds in Guatemala Year 2 Renewal – This provided ongoing operations and expenses for Semilla Nueva’s biofortified seed production and research that will provide the opportunity to reach 44,500 families using biofortified seed, make investments for future expansion of its research and policy efforts with the aim to provide nutrient enhanced seed for 200,000 farming families within a 10-year goal.
Semilla Nueva: Subsistence Farmers Income Development – This funding provided 25lbs of free F5 and F7 biofortified maize to 3,000 farmers with a focus on increasing production yield, income for the subsistence farmers and improved nutrition.
Strategies for International Development: Graduating Coffee Farmers from Poverty in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala – This is a Year 3 renewal of the 5-year program focused on expanding assistance to coffee growers in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala to increase productivity, increase the price they earn from coffee, increase their income, and improve conservation practices.
